-
overview to complex global governance system on forests, including global policies, institutions as well as key actors’ interests and power resources
Learning outcomes
Students acquire theoretical as well as practical knowledge of forest governance in general, with an emphasis on the actors and institutions governing forests at global scales. They are able to assess the complex global governance system on forests, including global policies, institutions as well as key actors’ interests and power resources. Students will be able to identify and manage the resulting politics and conflicts among actors in global forest governance, as well as options for their balanced reconciliation.
Teaching and learning methods
The practical skills and competencies will especially be acquired through an extensive Travelling Seminar trip to the Bonn international sustainability campus. Students will acquire practical insights into and networking opportunities on a range of forest-related intergovernmental organisations (e.g. UNFCCC, UNCCD, IPBES, EFI, FSC, Right Livelihood College), international NGOs (e.g. FSC, ICLEI, Fairtrade), development actors (e.g. GIZ, DIE, ZEF), and relevant ministries (BMEL, BMZ, BMU). Hence, students are also able to assess a wide range of employment options in the field of global forestry.
